María
Eucalyptus Vendor
Acrylic on paper
23 x 29 cm
2023
This portrait is a tribute to María, a hardworking woman who lives in Bosa, in the south of Bogotá, and rises every day at 5 a.m. to sell eucalyptus on the city streets. She sells it for three thousand pesos a bundle, and many times her lunch consists only of bread and water.
Despite the hardships, her work is dignified, and her gaze reflects the strength of those who sustain the country from invisibility.
In this piece, María poses with her red cap, urban sweatpants, and work gloves while holding the eucalyptus that allows her to survive. The vibrant yellow background amplifies her presence, turning her into the protagonist of her own story.
The work is part of the Colombian Models series, a pictorial project that rescues the beauty and dignity of real women. With a hyperpop aesthetic that fuses hyperrealism and pop art, this piece celebrates those who resist, work, and struggle each day with silent courage.
