Balvina
Plant Vendor
Acrylic on cardboard
40 x 45 cm
2023
This hyperrealistic portrait represents Balvina, an elderly woman from Monguí, Boyacá, whose face reveals a life marked by dignity, wisdom, and resilience.
At the age of 20, she arrived in Bogotá with her husband and two children. Shortly after, her husband abandoned her, and it was her deep knowledge of plants and her work as a street vendor that allowed her to move forward. Since then, Balvina has walked the streets of Bogotá for decades, sharing her joy, strength, and love of nature with those around her.
The vibrant floral background evokes not only her trade but also the vital energy that emanates from her story. Painted in acrylic on canvas with my Hyperpop technique, a fusion of hyperrealism and pop art; this work highlights, through bold colors and expressive strokes, the mature beauty and feminine experience it seeks to honor.
Balvina is part of my series Colombian Models, dedicated to portraying real women who, through their daily work, have quietly woven the soul of our country. This piece is intended for collectors and art lovers with a social conscience, those who seek to connect with profound and transformative human stories.
