Betty
Street Vendor
Collage
61 x 91 cm
2025
This explosive work of color and emotion portrays Betty, a woman whose radiant smile becomes the central axis of the canvas. A street vendor of sweets and cigarettes in Bogotá, her genuine joy is an act of everyday resistance.
The intense orange background, intervened with real wrappers of popular products such as Jet, Chocoramo, and Trululu, connects the viewer with the urban and popular environment in which her life unfolds.
The mixed media technique fusing oil, acrylic, collage, and texture, enhances the expressiveness of her face and integrates elements of pop art with a hyperrealist approach.
Her knitted blue hat, her worn yet dignified clothes, and the intensity of her laughter-closed gaze tell a story of effort, hope, and humanity.
Betty did not pose in a studio: she was portrayed in her working environment, and for this reason, the piece is also a tribute to her. Five percent of the value of the artwork is given directly to its protagonist, as a way of sharing the symbolic and economic value of her image transformed into art.
