Ana Isabel
Blood Sausage and Potato Vendor
Mixed media on canvas
70 x 70 cm
2025
Ana Isabel is a 75-year-old woman who has worked since the age of seven, selling blood sausage (morcilla) and potato stew (papa chorreada) at the Paloquemao market in Bogotá. Today, she is a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
This portrait, created in mixed media on canvas, captures her radiant, candid laughter, framed by pink glasses and a fuchsia scarf that contrast with the explosive background of neon and pastel colors.
The work combines hyperrealism with elements of pop and expressionist art, highlighting her vital strength and the dignity of her trade.
Five percent of the value of this piece will be given to Ana Isabel as a tribute to her story and example of life for gifting me a few minutes of her time in the midst of her tireless workday. This artwork not only portrays her face but also honors all the working women who sustain the soul of our city.
